A couple of parents in a town in California are taking the local school district to court to try and remove a Yoga program recently introduced in the school. They believe the district is making the children ''spiritual guinei pigs'' and Ashtanga Yoga contains religious undertones.
The district hoped that yoga “would help the elementary school students focus on studies, keep them calm and may even curb bullying,”
The Ashtanga Yogis that are teaching the program at the school say that they have taken all the 'spiritual' aspects out of the Yoga class and teach only the Yoga poses and breathing exercises.
I'm wondering, if Yoga in Schools is planting some kind of religious seed, should we also ban Christmas or Easter?
Or should they be calling the class 'stretch and breathe' and not 'yoga'?
