Yoga Teacher Training FAQs
What style of Yoga do you teach? We teach a variety of styles in the course including Hatha, Vinyasa (flow), Chair Yoga and Restorative. Please check the particular course content for more details. How much yoga experience do I need before undertaking a Yoga Teacher Training with The Yoga Social? Some of our courses require you to be a qualified yoga teacher already, if it's a post grad weekend course. If the course is a 200hr course, It's difficult to measure experience, as everyone is different (and yoga styles and teachers are different), but we reckon if you have had a regular yoga practice for at least 12 months, and have the desire to become a yoga teacher, you are welcome in our training. What if I can't do 'advanced' yoga postures like arm balances or inversions? This is a common misconception of what yoga is, and who yoga teachers should be. We like to stay away from using the terms 'advanced' and 'beginners'. Some people are better at balancing, some are better at forward bending, some may be more experienced but less fit, some more fit but very new to breathing and meditating. You’ll learn the tools so you can teach to everyBODY regardless of shape, age and fitness level. Yoga is for everybody and that’s what The Yoga Social is about :) |
Are there set sequences to learn?
We don’t expect you to learn set sequences. Sure, we give you some examples of our sequences, but we teach you how to plan and sequence your own classes, and encourage you to teach loads during the course. Our courses, whether short or long, are well known for having lots of practice teaching in them. We aren’t interested in ‘minions’ or ‘mini-mes’. We'll provide you with the tools, wisdom and knowledge to be your own teacher. You’ll attract your tribe and we will back you 100%.
How will I be assessed?
You are assessed throughout the duration of the course when you teach and receive feedback. Some courses will require you to do a final teaching assessment/exam class at the end of the course (you'll teach a 60 minute sequence in groups a few weeks beforehand, and then a shorter sequence as your assessment on the final weekend). Some courses which are shorter in duration, may have you teaching in groups where you will be assessed by the lead trainer.
Is this course registered with Yoga Alliance?
Firstly, we would like to make it clear that yoga teachers do not need to be registered with any industry body like Yoga Alliance or Yoga Australia. This is a common misunderstanding. We, The Yoga Social, did a poll in Australia in 2019 and 80% of the working yoga teachers who responded to our poll were not registered with either, and had never been asked by an employer. We think this is important for you to know :)
However, yes, our 200hr and 500hr course is registered with Yoga Alliance and our school is registered with both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia for the shorter courses (CECs required). You will have the opportunity to register with either of these if you wish.
What if I need to take time off?
We understand things happen. People get sick, and also things come up. You are required to make up the lectures you miss however, this could be done online free of charge, depending on the course. Please discuss this with The Yoga Social.
Will I receive a certification and will I be qualified to teach yoga?
Yes. We will award you with an internationally recognised certificate once you complete the training and you have paid off the course in full.
